Add Borders to Your Google Docs

The Google Suite – Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc. – has been a life-saver throughout my pandemic teaching. Along with Google being my go-to, there are still some features it is lacking. One such feature is the ability to add a border around my Google Doc. While I know I can already do this in Microsoft Word or just simply change my page setup in Google Slides to mirror a doc, I still want to do this in Docs.

I have found 3 different options to add a border in Docs.

  • Inserting a Transparent Image
  • Inserting a Google Drawing
  • Using a 1×1 Table

The video below shows how to create the border using the three options.

While I would love to have the option to create borders from a real feature, these three options can work for now. I’m thinking if everyone can leave feedback for Google and tell them we NEED this feature, maybe they’ll add it.

Leave feedback for Google by following the steps outlined here.

  1. As a local Pittsburgh administrator in the area, kudos on the content you are putting out there in the field!

    Way to go!
